The East Career and Technical Academy (ECTA) is a state of the art career training high school
serving the southeast Las Vegas Valley. The campus is designed to fully integrate academics with career
training, with collaboration and presentation spaces provided to encourage students and faculty to
share ideas. Students will attend classes in a high tech atmosphere; the school design and finishes are
similar to a business park, making the school appear like a modern workplace. Technical programs
at the ECTA include Information Technology, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Transportation Technology, Early
Childhood Education, Pre-engineering, Construction Management, and Medical Professions. The ECTA is a
sustainably designed and constructed building, with recycled materials, low VOC finishes, local materials,
and careful monitoring of construction practices such as materials recycling and indoor air quality. Energy
conservation and water conservation are important features of the ECTA, as well. The school is designed
to operate at half the energy of a typical code-base high school and is equipped with high efficiency
irrigation and low-flow indoor plumbing fixtures. The landscape design consists of native and adapted
drought-tolerant plants. To reduce the urban heat island effect, the ECTA has a white roof and many trees
to shade the asphalt parking lot. A large, white shade canopy soars over a central outdoor gathering
space. This central amphitheater is really the heart of the school.
